Effigy
& Automatic
Ozone
Bar
Fri.
1st August 1997
Due
to the horrendous traffic in Northbridge on a Friday night I missed Sodastream,
but I managed to see Automatic. I remembered them being a lot heavier than they
were live and despite the lukewarm response from the crowd most of whom sat down
for the whole set they played an incredible set. They teased us with the opening
of Eye Of The Tiger and at the end the guitarist attempted to play the whole song,
the only problem was if your going to cover a song it helps if you know the words.
This was the first time I have seen a band knock over the drum kit at the end
of the gig then stop to put it back together again! These guys are worth seeing
if only for the stage show, you can tell the drummer used to be in Custard.
Well
Effigy was who the crowd were there to see & they made that know from the start.
Stage diving at an Effigy gig is a bit odd and inconsiderate. To the guy who kicked
my camera gear thanks I owe you one! (If he's reading this I am being sarcastic,
I only put this in because it was clear your not the most intelligent of people).
It was great to see people getting into them especially compared to the Melbourne
gig, but it's a pity when a few ruin it for the rest of the crowd. Most of the
show was new songs including a Dylanesque song complete with harmonica & acoustic
guitar. There were a few old gems in there like Average Child & Ultraclean. Still
no Crackers though. I would have to say I preferred the Melbourne show but that's
because of the crowd not the show.
