Public Bar North Melbourne

Sat 12th July

The Public Bar is a small dingy room with a low ceiling & no ventilation but loads of atmosphere. By the time Effigy started the place was quite full but most people were sitting down & remained seated for the whole show despite requests by Annie to stand. Melbourne audiences are strange, they sit there through a great set looking like they are only there because they have to be yet leave saying what a great show it was, & this one was definitely that. It was a good mix of old & new songs including Sin, Average Child & the best version of Organ Hands I've heard in a long time. The newer songs they played were Misfits & I've Lost The Will to Give In which they showcased on their last tour of Perth. As a birthday dedication they also played David Bowies Heroes which they covered really well. Despite the audiences lack of enthusiasm it was a great gig. It was like seeing Effigy before they moved, no make up, no costumes just great music but unfortunately no Crackers.
