Effigy Bytes - Review From Rolling Stone

They're serious about the lipstick and frilly shirts. This Perth (via Melbourne) trio thrives on trashy, androgynous melodrama, a Bowie-cum-Cure glam decadence which they manage to pull off thanks to an appealing naivete- not to mention the cute pop immediacy of singles like "Lovers" and "Small". The cartoon goth style is perfectly compatible with Pete Hardman's lyrics, nicely steeped in death, hell, madness, messianic illusions and a strong sense of personal isolation.

His metallic guitars and muppetesque vocal style don't always suspend disbelief but a good, bitchy tantrum like "Bluffing" ("I hate my friends", goes the pouting refrain) and the haunting piano melody of the stand-out "I Remember Nothing" tend to swing well in their favour.
